We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Hassan Adam Abdel Rahman Hamari, a volunteer with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS). Hassan died on 5 August during a flood search and rescue mission in Al Nohoud locality, West Kordofan State, while trying to recover the body of a drowned person.
Hassan was a valued member of the SRCS Emergency Room, and his bravery and dedication will be remembered. We extend our sincere condolences to Hassan's family and our colleagues at SRCS.
Since the beginning of the year, 28 volunteers and staff members from National Societies have lost their lives while on duty. The Sudanese Red Crescent Society alone has reported seven deaths. Other fatalities occurred in Algeria, Iran, Palestine, and Ethiopia, with 26 resulting from violence and conflict, and two from accidents. These numbers exclude ICRC delegates and staff, who are tracked through separate reporting systems.
