The Global Migration and Displacement Platform
Our IFRC Global Migration and Displacement Platform unites local and global action to ensure that people at risk of displacement, people on the move, and the communities that host them, live with dignity, safety and opportunity.

More than 300 million people are on the move today – fleeing conflict, disasters, and climate impacts, or seeking safety and opportunity. Yet responses remain fragmented and underfunded, leaving many to face closed borders and dangerous routes instead of dignity and safety.
The IFRC Global Migration and Displacement Platform unites 191 National Societies in a coordinated, locally led response. It connects humanitarian assistance, protection and development to support people before, during and after movement.
The platform brings together humanitarian, development, and private sector partners for scaled impact, resulting in more efficient use of funds that prioritise large-scale responses over individual projects, contributing to a more holistic solution.
The Global Migration and Displacement Platform will support work in the 100 countries around the world most vulnerable to migration and displacement.
By 2030, we aim to:
Support 100 million people on the move and in host communities.
Mobilize CHF 500 million for migration and displacement programmes through humanitarian, development, and private partnerships.
Direct 75 per cent of funding to local action, empowering National Societies and community-led initiatives. The remaining 25 per cent is programmed through IFRC’s global structure to deliver essential services that enable country-level action. This includes global surge capacity, international procurement and coordination mechanisms that ensure quality, efficiency, and donor confidence across all operations.
Build a global, connected system that transforms fragmented projects into one coordinated response across borders.
Our three pillars of action
Resilience
The Global Migration Platform seeks to fortify the resilience of communities in countries of origin via the following actions:
- Supporting livelihoods, creating employment opportunities in partnerships with the private sector.
- Reducing climate and disaster risks by investing in locally-led climate adaptation, and disaster preparedness so people can live safely at home.
- Reintegration support for returnees, including job opportunities and psychosocial care.
- Helping communities reduce displacement risks so migration becomes a choice, not a necessity.
Protection
The Migration Platform continues its commitment to the protection of migrants' lives and dignity through all routes of transit. This includes:
- Humanitarian Service Points along major migration routes provide food, health care, water, protection, and reliable information.
- Cash assistance and digital platforms empower migrants to meet their own needs with dignity.
- Cross-border coordination means migrants are supported at every stage, not just at isolated points.
Integration
The Platform continues to ensure the success and integration of migrants in countries of destination and host communities. There are many ways this is done, including:
- Developing personalized plans that combine social assistance, skills development, and job preparation, adapted to individual’s context and capacities.
- Building skills such as communication, problem solving, adaptability, and digital literacy – that strengthen resilience and access to jobs.
- Partnering with the private sector to co-design training, create internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
