The Red Family Fund

The Red Family Fund honours volunteers and staff from National Societies who die in the line of duty and provides a mechanism for one-time financial assistance to the families they leave behind. This financial support is intended to complement any other local or global insurance mechanisms or funds that may exist for families.

Your donation will provide meaningful financial assistance to the families of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Your contribution honours their service and ensures their loved ones receive much-needed support. We invite you to stand with the families and loved ones these brave people have left behind.

Volunteers and staff from Red Cross and Red Crescent teams bring life-saving assistance and hope on the frontlines of every humanitarian response. We want them to know that we are with them, especially in times of need.  They have cared for others, now it's our turn to care for them.

Too many lives being lost

Humanitarian workers, including volunteers, operate in increasingly high-risk environments. From conflict zones to areas affected by violence, they often face significant dangers to provide life-saving assistance to those who need it most. 2024 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarian workers worldwide—particularly for local humanitarians. National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies also suffered a profound loss: 32 of our volunteers and staff died or were killed while carrying out their humanitarian work.

Even one life lost is far too many. These volunteers and staff members must be protected. In addition to providing financial support to families of our fallen colleagues, the IFRC is committed to taking every step necessary to ensure that humanitarian workers are fully protected as required under international humanitarian law. But we can't do it alone. Please see the links below to learn more about how you can join the effort to ensure humanitarian responders are respected and protected. Together, we can #ProtectHumanity.
