IFRC Strategy on Violence Prevention, Mitigation and Response
Violence touches everyone – it is a global humanitarian catastrophe that affects all continents, countries and communities.Although violence is often kept hidden and secret, it can occur at any time, in any place, and is manifested as physical, emotional/psychological, sexual violence or neglect.
While violence is pervasive and complex, it is not inevitable. Violence can be prevented, mitigated and responded to. For this to occur, the underlying root causes of violence must be addressed through comprehensive, evidence-based, persistent and coordinated action. This strategy provides National Societies and partners direction on how to prevent, mitigate and respond to violence in their communities.

The road to resilience: Bridging relief and development for a more sustainable future

But communities facing simultaneous or repeated hazards are better supported when humanitarian action also addresses their underlying risks and vulnerabilities, and helps them build their capacity to cope with future shocks.
This report looks at how we can bridge humanitarian relief and development work to help build resilient communities, and suggests implications for policy and action.

Guide to climate-smart programmes and operations
This guide, produced by the IFRC and Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, is designed to help Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies make their programmes and operations climate-smart.Climate-smart means using climate information across timescales in designing and/or adjusting all our programmes and operations. In doing so, programmes and operations ensure that, at a minimum, they do not place people at increased risk in the future considering likely new climate extremes and growing vulnerabilities. In addition, this approach offers the initial steps in the Climate Action Journey for the National Societies to identify locally led adaptation needs and support communities to anticipate, absorb and adapt to climate change. You can download the full guide in English, French and Spanish below, or download a summary of the guide in English here.
