Afghan Red Crescent Society members provide primary healthcare, distribute medicine, set up temporary shelters, hand out food, and manage waste at the Torkham and Spin Boldak border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Afghanistan: Population movement (returnees)

Since September 2023, nearly one million Afghans, including over 118,400 in April 2025 alone, have returned from Pakistan following the implementation of the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan. A further 1.5 million people are estimated to be affected or at risk in the months ahead. As they arrive in communities already strained by poverty, food insecurity, and limited healthcare, urgent support is needed to help them rebuild their lives safely and with dignity.Your donation will help the Afghan Red Crescent Society provide vital support to returnees and the communities that host them.

Rescue teams from the Myanmar Red Cross look for survivors in a collapsed building following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in central Myanmar on 28 March 2025.

Myanmar: Earthquake

A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on 28 March at 1:10 PM local time, with its epicenter just 17 kilometres from Mandalay. This was followed by a powerful 6.4 magnitude aftershock, intensifying the destruction. Entire buildings have collapsed, key infrastructure has been severely damaged, and communications remain cut off in many areas. The Myanmar Red Cross Society has activated its Emergency Operations Centers and deployed volunteers for search and rescue. The full scale of the disaster is still unfolding, but early reports indicate significant humanitarian needs. Your contribution will support the Myanmar Red Cross in its efforts to rescue survivors, bring urgent care and help people through their recovery.

In response to the oil spill in Esmeraldas province, the Ecuadorian Red Cross and the Esmeraldas branch, in coordination with the Esmeraldas Municipality, deployed its Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis team to the affected areas. Their work focused on evaluating the environmental and health impact of the emergency, identifying the urgent need for access to safe drinking water, and prioritizing humanitarian assistance for affected communities.

Ecuador: Floods and environmental contamination

Ecuador is facing a severe crisis due to extreme flooding and an oil spill, which has impacted over 200,000 people and damaged homes, roads, and water systems. The disaster has devastated agricultural operations, displaced thousands, while health risks have increased due to the accumulations of stagnant water. Ecuador Red Cross’ emergency response efforts aim to provide shelter, medical aid, safe water, and cash assistance to affected communities. Donations to this emergency appeal will help the Ecuador Red Cross provide urgent support to those in need.

Uganda Red Cross volunteers prepare for Ebola Virus Disease response.

Uganda: Ebola Virus Disease outbreak

An Ebola outbreak caused by the Sudan Virus Disease was declared in Kampala District, Uganda on 30 January 2025, following confirmation from three national laboratories. As of 10 February, nine confirmed cases and 265 contacts have been identified across multiple high-risk districts. The Uganda Red Cross Society is leading efforts to prevent further transmission through surveillance, risk communication, infection control, and safe burials.

Southwest Indian Ocean: Tropical Cyclone Chido

Tropical Cyclone Chido, a Category 4-equivalent storm with devastating winds and rains, severely impacted the Southwest Indian Ocean region, causing at least 117 deaths and affecting over a million people across Madagascar, the Comoros, Mayotte, Mozambique, and Malawi. Chido is the third named storm in the 2024-2025 cyclone season which is expected to continue until May 2025. Your donation will help the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Mozambique, Madagascar, Comoros, and Malawi to provide life-saving assistance, and enhance preparedness for future storms.
