In July 2022, a post distribution monitoring report found that people supported through the Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN) programme continue to struggle with the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We also made some adjustments to the programme targeting criteria in July 2022 in order to minimize inclusion and exclusion error.

Namibia is one of the driest countries south of the Sahara and has been experiencing persistent drought conditions for more than seven years. This report provides an assessment of drought conditions in the country in 2022, its impacts on people's lives and livelihoods, and the coping mechanisms people are using to get by.
This policy sets out the approach of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to addressing issues of protection, gender and inclusion (PGI). It demonstrates the IFRC network’s commitment to preventing, mitigating, and responding to violence, discrimination, and exclusion through strengthening its institutional capacity, through programmes and operations, and through advocacy, partnerships and collaboration. The policy strengthens and clarifies the unique value of the work of the IFRC network in this area, through individual National Society’s action and through IFRC Secretariat support. It also serves as a basis to strengthen complementarity of roles and approaches related to protection between all National Societies, the IFRC, the ICRC, other humanitarian actors and governments.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IIA standards) require an Internal Audit function to conduct an assessment of conformity – at least – on a five-year basis. KPMG Ltd. (KPMG) was mandated in August 2021 to perform an external quality assessment of IFRC’s Internal Audit services (Internal Audit or IA). The KPMG team which oversaw the execution of the external quality assessment fulfills the requirements regarding independence, expertise, and experience according to the IIA standard 1312.
In June 2022, we increased the transfer value of the Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN) programme due to the ongoing economic hardships negatively affecting people's purchasing power. We also conducted a joint monitoring mission to better understand people's economic challenges, employment opportunities, and the barriers they face in different sectors.
Cash and voucher assistance (CVA) is an effective, efficient and transparent way of providing humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable.It ensures people have the freedom, dignity and independence to decide on their own recovery. But challenges around acceptance and delivery remain when it comes to providing CVA to migrants. This report reviews how the IFRC has used CVA to assist migrants, offering diverse examples from many different National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. It also analyses the opportunities, barriers and risks to providing CVA in migratory contexts. The Red Cross and Red Crescent Middle East & North Africa Migration Network (MENA Migration Network) was established in March 2021 by 15 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies, the IFRC MENA Regional Office and the ICRC Near Middle East Regional Office. The Network aims to improve collaboration and share expertise of Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies working with and for migrants in the region. This report provides an overview of migratory routes and trends in the MENA region in 2021, and how National Societies are responding to the needs of people on the move.
Disasters and the adverse impacts of climate change are already leading to the forced displacement of more than 20 million people each year. The vast majority of this displacement (more than 80 percent) occurs in the Asia Pacific region. This collection of case studies demonstrates the important work many National Societies across the Asia Pacific region are undertaking to address the challenge of climate-related displacement.
