Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies areauxiliaries to the public authorities in the humanitarian field. Theyhave a special responsibility to support their authorities to develop policies that protect vulnerable people, particularlyfrom disasters and crises. The IFRC serves as their representative in global and regional policy fora, working closely with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Red Cross and Red Crescent Health Information System
The Red Cross and Red Crescent Health Information System (RCHIS) is our digital health tool for emergency response. It allows doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to effectively manage patient information and individual care.
Cholera
Cholera is a bacterial disease, usually spread through contaminated water, that causes severe diarrhoea and dehydration. It can kill, and thrives in poor or overcrowded conditions where access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene are compromised.
Blood donation
The IFRC supports our 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to deliver and promote safe and sustainable blood programmes around the world. Together, we supported more than 22 million people to donate bloodin 2022.
Epidemic and pandemic preparedness
The IFRC and our National Societies engage and train people worldwide in epidemic preparedness and response. We help them prevent, detect and quickly respond to outbreaks—saving countless lives and promoting healthier communities.
