The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is a global membership organization made up of 191 member National Societies. Our governance reflects this global network to ensure our strategic direction is set by our members, for our members.
The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). It takes place every two years and sets the overall policy and vision for ournetwork.
The IFRC is made up of 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, often referred to as National Societies,present in nearly every country of the world. Their roles differ country by country, but they are all united by our Fundamental Principlesand all strive for the good of humanity.
The IFRC has a long history of supporting communities to recover from crises. We ensure that our humanitarian assistance helps communities ‘build back better’ and become more resilient to future shocks.
Disasters and crises can take a devastating toll on people’s food security and livelihoods. They can increase people’s socio-economic vulnerability and seriously impact their ability to recover, which in turn affects their ability to cope with future shocks and stresses.
The IFRC supports our 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to deliver and promote safe and sustainable blood programmes around the world. Together, we supported more than 22 million people to donate bloodin 2022.

When Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies help people affected by disasters or crises, they start by conducting emergency needs assessments. These assessments help them understand the extent and impact of the damage a disaster or crisis has caused, as well as the ability of the affected population to meet its immediate survival needs.
The IFRC’s Integrity Line reporting system is available for anyone to report any possible misconduct involving the IFRC and our Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world.
